Welcome to ImagineAmenia,

a grassroots organization founded in 2003 by concerned citizens to promote open government, participation in the governing process, and input into plans for the future development of Amenia.

In June of 2003, after more than one year of having our voices stifled and our vision ignored, a small group of citizens began to meet at kitchen tables to formulate a plan to take back our town. We adopted and personified the quote of Margaret Mead:

“Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it’s the only thing that ever has.”

On election day the majority, the "silent majority", of citizens let their voices be heard and the incumbents were defeated.

Today, the challenges and opportunities are many. We continue to attend board meetings and volunteer on local town committees. We ask our elected officials to consider all voices within the community and to make honest, open, and responsible decisions that will benefit the whole town. We encourage everyone to speak out, participate, be aware of the issues and take an active roll in how the town functions.
