President’s Report – Sept. 25, 2011

The following report was given by Betty Rooney, Acting President of ImagineAmenia, at the Annual General Membership Meeting held September 25, 2011.

ImagineAmenia was organized in 2003. Our goal then, as it is today, is to do whatever it takes to insure that Amenia will be governed by responsible, committed individuals who will consider the needs of all its citizens, while protecting and preserving what we have here. People we can trust to make decisions that will insure that we will be proud of the town that will be turned over to our children and grandchildren.

We are proud today to present to you those candidates who have declared their desire to be elected to positions running the business of our town. In a few minutes they will tell us why they have chosen to offer themselves as candidates for positions in which they wish to serve our community. They have put themselves on the line, so to speak, and it will be up to each and every one of us to vote for the candidates you believe in your heart will do the best job for our town.

During this past year the IA Board has met monthly to stay on top of the many issues facing our town. Charlotte Murphy is a presence at nearly every town board meeting, as well as committee meetings, and has reported on them in our newsletters to the membership. It is not always possible for most of us to attend all of these meetings, but Charlotte is our faithful representative and gives an unbiased accounting of what is happening. If you received our recent newsletter you undoubtedly read Charlotte’s report on town happenings. It is imperative to keep up with what is happening, why it is happening and where it is happening.

ImagineAmenia has adopted two sections of road for twice a year cleanup. One section is along Route 22 and the other is Route 343 from Sears to the rail trail. We are always in need of more volunteers to help with the task, so if you are so inclined be sure to update your contact information at the sign-in table before you leave today.

In June, IA had a table for the third year in a row at the Strawberry Fair, collecting non-perishables for the two food closets in Amenia. We were able to present two large boxes of groceries to each of them, along with gift cards purchased at Freshtown with the cash contributions we collected.

Our goals for the next year are to continue working for a balanced community; to support and vote for responsible local candidates who will listen to the people and who will act on behalf of all Amenia citizens, and to help keep the public informed on critical issues facing our town.

Please be sure to exercise your American right: Vote on November 8th to elect those who represent us all.
